Bob Bradley the day after: 'It was a good goal'
SUGGESTED CAPTION: The United States is moving on, ready to forget about the disallowed goal that cost the Americans a win in their 2-2 draw with Slovakia at the World Cup. The AP's John Mone has the story from South Africa.
VO
A DAY AFTER THE U-S SOCCER TEAM MOUNTED A COMEBACK TO TIE SLOVENIA 2-2...COACH BOB BRADLEY WAS LOOKING TO MOVE ON WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE GOAL THAT WASN'T--
"typically on the field when things happen fast...it's not like referees explain every call they make. "
AT 85 MINUTES IN...IT LOOKED AS IF U-S MIDFIELDER VOLLEYED IN A GOAL OFF A LANDON DONNOVAN FREE KICK. BUT REFEREE KOMAN COLIBALY WHISTLED OFF THE GOAL--
SPECULATION HAS RANGED FROM A POSSIBLE FOUL ON US CAPTAIN CARLOS BOCANEGRA OR A ONE ON CLINT DEMPSEY...
BUT IF YOU LOOKED AT A REPLAY...IT LOOKS LIKE MORE SLOVENE PLAYERS WERE HOLDING ON TO AMERICANS...THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND...
"so you can speculate and everything about which guy...i think it's a waste of time. I think there was nothing there, I think it's a good goal and that's that."
BUT ITS A CALL THAT ULTIMATELY COULD MEAN A DIFFERENCE WHETHER THE AMERICANS MOVE ON TO THE SECOND ROUND OF THE WORLD CUP. FIFA--THE ORGANIZER OF THE WORLD CUP --DOESN'T REQUIRE OFFICIALS TO EXPLAIN THEIR DECISIONS.
"I think it's a good goal."
WITH ENGLAND DRAWING AGAINST ALGERIA...TEAM USA WILL MOVE ON IF THEY BEAT ALGERIA IN THE LAST GROUP MATCH. THEY CAN ALSO MOVE ON WITH A DRAW IF ENGLAND TIES AS WELL...BUT THEY'LL HAVE TO HAVE THE EDGE ON GOALS SCORED TO BREAK A TIE IN THE OVERALL POINTS.
" you have to have that belief, and I think as a team we continue to show belief in different ways. And I think going into that final game, we have to go in believing we're going to get out of that group."
STAND UP
"one head spinning scenario is this, if England and the US both draw and both have the same goal differential...they're both in a dead heat...then FIFA has to go to system of lots...a flip of a coin to see who moves on the second round. John Mone The Associated Press, Pretoria South Africa."
