Today is lockdown in South Africa!!!! Here are some activities to do with kids at home :).
Today, 26 March 2020 marks the start of an unprecedented time in our country’s history. The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa in his speech addressing the nation on Monday night 23d March 2020 has decided to place the country in lockdown to hopefully #flattenthecurve on this crippling pandemic.
Nanny ‘n Me have been so kind in sending us a recipe book that they have developed which has a load of activities to do with kids at home. Slimes, putties and doughs! What’s great about their recipes is that most of the ingredients you can find in your kitchen cupboard and don’t cost a lot!
Nanny ’n Me was started in Cape Town in April 2012 and focuses on training nannies in educating, creative and sensory play with little people. Nanny ‘n Me offers weekly groups all over South Africa for nannies and the little ones that they care for. The activities reflect the interests and developmental stage of the child.
There is an emphasis on positively influencing the nanny and child relationship as well as encouraging ongoing input at home where a learning environment is promoted. Nannies learn about developmental concepts week by week and receive certificates every block. Moms receive a weekly email explaining the activities and enjoy seeing photos of their child so they don’t miss out on the fun!
Due to the Pandemic Nanny ‘n Me’s groups are not currently running face-to-face. They have instead developed an online portal where families can still access the usual group material and so much more! And it’s not just for Nannies anymore! Mom’s, Dad’s and siblings are getting in on the fun and working through the online content with the little ones!
You can visit their website and sign up for Nanny 'n Me online for R640 and you will have access to:
- A 6-week baby AND toddler online overview course (1 video session for each block of development)
- Age-appropriate home fun activities for baby, toddler AND your big kids who are probably home from school.
- A shopping list (AND ideas for substitutes you may already have around the house).
- A flexible daily routine to follow for the extended period you are all at home together.
- A list of quick-reference, easy to set-up activities for children in all the age groups up to 9 years old.
-A free Nanny ‘n Me resource each week
- An adapted version of the content for your Nanny to access and use if she is at home with her own children or grandchildren!
