By the time MOMENTUM launched, Kelly Slater was already KELLY SLATER!! "Slatermania" was a thing. He'd been listed in amongst People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" and won everything he'd entered so far (and would continue to). Quiksilver's "Kelly Slater in Black and White" came out the same year and the surf world was voracious for forums to study and dissect his moves. MOMENTUM proved just such a forum...and set the stage for the surf world to follow his progress on an annual basis.
