Nativity of John the Baptist

The Catholic Church celebrates only three birthdays – that of Jesus, Mary and John the Baptist. Our birthday celebrations are usually opportunities for people to feast to celebrate a person's birthday. However, the celebration of the birth of John the Baptist is not focused on him, but on Jesus instead. John's ministry was to prepare the way for the Christ the Lord – "He must increase and I must decrease".
