Today I'm going to teach you a quick and easy Milkfish recipe, in the Philipines they call it "Paksiw na Bangus". But first lets get to know what type of fish is a milkfish and what are its health benefits.
Milkfish, also known as the bangus or bandeng, is actually the only living member of the Chanidae family. Milkfish is a Pacific saltwater fish that is silver in color. Milkfish is famous in Southeast Asia. In fact, it is the national fish of the Philippines, where it is called bangus. The city of Dagupan in Pangasinan, Philippines is the ‘bangus capital of the country.’ They even celebrate it as a festival every year between March and April to give thanks for the abundance of milkfish in the city.
Milkfish is one of the healthiest and most nutritious fish alongside with salmon, it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and other amazing nutrients, which are vital for normalising bodily functions.
After knowing these facts about bangus or milkfish, I believe some of you are already curious on how to prepare or enjoy this fish, dont worry guys I got you covered. Here is a quick and easy recipe for you to begin with we call it "Paksiw na bangus".
Paksiw na Bangus is a Filipino dish made with milkfish simmered in vinegar, garlic, onions, eggplant and ginger. You dont need a special coking skill to make this, just combine fish, eggplant, onion, ginger, garlic, vinegar, water, peppercorns, finger chili and salt. Cover and let simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes or until fish is cooked and liquid is reduced. Drizzle oil on top and stir gently to combine. Serve hot.
