In this video we will be driving through the Bamenda Grassfields of Akum/Santa while enjoying the history of this Grassfields and the pain inflicted on us by this crises. Bamenda Grassfields is a region of Cameroon characterised by high relief, cool temperatures, heavy rainfall and savanna vegetation. The region lies along the Cameroon line and consists of mountain ranges and volcanoes made of crystalline and igneous rock. Akum and Santa are road side villages leading to the city of Bamenda. Because of the rich volcanic soils in this area, the villages are well known for the cultivation of Irish potatoes and vegetables. I can almost say in Cameroon this are the highest suppliers of this farm produce as their main source of livelihood here is farming. Since the crises started in November 2016 the population of this villages have gradually been reduced as the years go by either through migration to other villages or cities for refuge or death from stray bullets caught in btw the fighters. This is the reason while most of the land looks so untouched should I say untouched no unexploited 🤣🤣🤣 everyone is scared of their lives cuz everyday seems like a new hell, parents get up from bed not being sure of their children’s future, business have been lost, brothers, sisters, friends, parents, children and animals have been lost but still no sign of a better tomorrow. Promises have been made from but sides but yet to be fulfilled. We don’t on how far this will go but we pray for a better tomorrow and a certain future for are children and children’s. This is a land that was filled with milk and honey, a place we use to call home sweet home but now no dares to call it that cuz the reality on ground is true.
Cameroon's Anglophone region remains in the grip of a seemingly never-ending crisis, even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. International observers are increasing their calls to cease the violence, following reports of attacks and abductions of health workers.
The crisis in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon, now four years old, started in 2016 when lawyers and teachers took to the streets of Buea and Bamenda to protest the domination of French in Anglophone courts and schools.
The strike action quickly gained public sympathy and, on November 21, a popular uprising dubbed "the coffin revolution" took place in Bamenda demanding political reforms.
The situation escalated on October 1, 2017, when militant secessionist groups, led by Julius Sisiku Ayuke Tabe, symbolically proclaimed the independence of a new nation — including the two Anglophone regions — called Ambazonia
