Non-shrink Grouts and Patch Repair Mortars ; What is the right product for my job?
Do you know the difference of these mortars? Have you ever tried patching a hole in the wall and, no matter what you or your hired tradesman did, you could never get the repair mortar to finish flush with the surface? Or to dry without unsightly crack lines? If you have, you can probably blame it on wrong material selection. Knowing the differences between mortars helps you make the right choice and saves you time, effort, and expense.
This purpose of non-shrink grout is for precision grouting and formwork repairs where the mixed mortar is poured or pumped into a constrained space and left to cure. Thus, it is also flowable.
However for repair mortars where small area surface of area for patching, it needs a good bonding especially when applied vertically. Thus, it is sticky instead of flowable and resistance to drying shrinkage)
Here is the characteristic of a correct patching mortar can be explained by doing a comparison of both types of grouts when you do patching on a vertical slab.
