I wanted to do a switch to all Nikon Z camera equipment because I've really enjoyed the Z5 as a photography camera. I also needed a bit of cash from my Canon EF-M equipment collection while I was at it, so my options were limited with what to use instead of the Canon EOS M6 Mark II that I was using for video. I purchased a used Nikon Z30 with the hope that it could do what the Canon EOS M6 Mark II was capable of. That's not the case.
Many cameras make massive 4k video files internally, so I've enjoyed using an Atomos Ninja V HDMI recorder in h.265 8-bit 4:2:0 encoding with the optional encoder pack to do long recordings. It is efficient and produces files sufficient for my needs with the added benefit of being able to crop-in when I need with final output at 1080p.
Cameras like the Canon EOS M6 Mark II show that it can be done with some compromise rather than making the camera unreliable to use in practice. Yes, I know that cameras like the Sony FX30 and Panasonic Lumix S5ii exist. I'd certainly take a few of those if I could. I'm not thrilled with the current state of hybrid camera design and marketing from manufacturers.
