I use E-Series Simulator 11.72 to show how global hot spares work, then I move on to show how DDP (Dynamic Disk Pools) do that differently compared to traditional RAID and hot spares, by using reserved capacity internal to individual DDP.
I also look at why DDP of the same width (size) can have so much larger usable capacity than RAID 5 (because DDP is R6, and because its spare capacity is allocated from within, not externally from a global hot spare pool).
