Dr. Maria Beger from the University of Queensland is an avid diver and marine scientist who is experienced in identifying reef fishes. She is collecting data of absence and presence of reef fishes in the area around the proposed park and these data will be correlated with the depths these reef fishes were found and their abundance according to the coordinates of the dive sites.
These data will be able to contribute to the conservation plan of Tun Mustapha Park by giving a clearer idea to the biodiversity status of reef fishes found in the proposed park.
Check out this video as Dr. Maria attempts to show us her how she does her data collecting at every dive throughout the expedition.
The TMPE that set sailed from 6-26 September is jointly funded by Malaysian-CTI (MOSTI through the National Oceanography Directorate), USAID's Coral Triangle Support Partnership and WWF-Malaysia's individual supporters.
