"We are focusing at the moment on the first part of Mr. (Kofi) Annan's plan. And he himself, I think, understands very well that there's no space to talk about any of the other items if the first and second item are not respected. And if there's no compliance with that. If that is implemented - stopping the killings, withdrawing military and security forces, releasing prisoners and allowing the population to receive emergency aid, that is the first step towards any possible negotiation after that."

STORYLINE
The main Syrian opposition group was "cautiously optimistic" that Syria's President Bashar Assad will implement the United Nations six-point plan for a negotiated end to the bloody Syrian conflict.
The plan includes a cease-fire and inclusive talks about a political solution.
A spokesperson for the Syrian National Council's (SNC) said once the bloodshed has stopped, there may be room for negotiation.
"We are focusing at the moment on the first part of Mr. (Kofi) Annan's plan," said Paris-based member of the SNC Bassma Kodmani.
"He himself, I think, understands very well that there's no space to talk about any of the other items if the first and second item are not respected and if there's no compliance with that," she added.
The SNC remains steadfast in its calls for the removal of Syria's President Bashar Assad and change of regime.
Some 200 members of the Syrian opposition, including the Syrian National Council, are meeting in Istanbul to agree on a shared vision for Syria's democratic future.
The conference comes less than a week before the so-called "Friends of Syria" meeting when western and world powers will convene to discuss Syria.
