If you’re like us, it always feels like we pick more apples than we can consume but never fear, I’ve got a great recipe for you!
Peel, core and chop 4 medium apples. I used honey crisps.
In a saucepan, combine chopped apples with 2 cups of water, 1/2 a lemon, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, 1/3 cup brown sugar. You can add a dash of allspice if you have it.
Bring to a boil and then let simmer on low for 1.5 hours. Pop it into your blender and blend till smooth. Then bring it back to the stove to simmer on low for another 2 hours.
Put it in a jar and let cool 🫙🍎 then refrigerate.
The next morning you’ll find that your apple butter has deepened in colour and should taste sweet, a little tangy and has a deep and rich apple flavour!
This tastes great with toast, ice cream, waffles, oatmeal, on sandwiches as a spread, or used as a base for sauces and marinade!
