Bajra or pearl millet also known as kambu. Bajra consists of complex carbs and is absorbed slowly from our digestive tract which helps to keep us satiated for a longer time and prevents binge eating/snacking and thus helps in weight loss. Millets are completely gluten free. Bajra is a rich source of fibre, helps to manage diabetes, and they have anti cancer properties. The abundant polyphenols present in bajra include flavonoids - tricin, luteolin and acacetin. These have been shown to be anti-carcinogenic and antitumor, and may even help arrest the growth of breast cancer cells. Bajra is a good source of omega 3 fats, iron and phosphorus.
