It's fairly quick once you get the hang of it, and energy is a permanent addition to your whole account. It's a huge QOL, especially for gathering!

I realise now that I've done this a little out of order unfortunately, I strongly recommend taking the time to get as much of the character knowledge in the different cities first to help with some of the amity games that will be required. There's going to be some jumping around all in all, but that's usually what happens anyways as you get deeper into knowledge completion.
