Wolverine’s X-Men: What Happened?

Wolverine’s X-Men were all taken out which is what led to Wolverine being an alcoholic who dresses in yellow spandex.

We learn it was humans going mutant hunting which is what led to their untimely demise.

But how could humans without powers take out mutants? We learn this answer in X-Men The Last Stand where the military weaponize ‘the cure’ which on impact immediately negates mutant powers.

That means it doesnt matter how strong the X-Men are, if it was a surprise ambush, there truly is nothing they can do.
Its also why Wolverine was feeling guilty because, as seen in X-Men 2 when the mansion got raided, Wolverine would know they are coming and could have prevented the tragedy.
It also could explain why he dislikes the Avengers because where were they when his kind needed them the most?
