(25 Apr 2014) Eight navy vessels from Latin American countries arrived in Peru's El Callao port on Thursday as part of a Tall Ships sailing festival that will culminate in Mexico.
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela each have one navy vessel and Argentina has two taking part in the event.
The ships will be on display over the weekend at the El Callao port.
The crews will sail for a total of 134 days and will make several stops at ports in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
"This event brings a message of brotherhood, unity and fellowship among the navy's in Latin America," said Captain Colver Ruiz of the Peru Navy.
The crews will sail 12,000 nautical miles (22,224 km) in total.
The regatta started in Brazil and will culminate in Mexico's port of Veracruz between 18 and 21 June.
