Ep18: Sailing along the Nivernais Canal we are swept away by its beauty and challenged by so many locks. We're taking the long way down to the Mediterranean Sea through farm land, forest and village in the middle of France but we must reach the overnight mooring before the locks and bridges stop working. We were told by helpful lock keepers (eclusiers) that the last lifting bridge after three locks ahead would stop operating at 7pm AND with no where safe to moor up for the night before the bridge there's no choice, the race is on - but there is a speed limit of 8km/hr on the canal! We cannot fault the help and thoughtfulness of these people working the locks.
