Public transportation plays a critical role in the day-to-day lives of people in cities all across the the world. Arguably, the most effective method of transporting large numbers of people is the metro system (also known as rail rapid transit, and subways).

While only a handful of major cities in the United States have metro systems, this method of transportation has become a standard expectation of major cities all across the world. On today’s episode of Travel with Brian, we’ll be ranking the top ten nations of the world, by the number of Metro systems.

For nations with the same number of metro systems, the total track length of the nation's systems will be used as the tiebreaker.
