In this episode, we take a close look at drop-2 voicings and how to apply them to ii-V-Is and standards. We discuss Barry Harris' sixth-diminished scale, and how to practice it using drop-2 voicings. Here's the rundown:
0:32–"little chords" in drop-2
6:17–ii-V-I using the Tonic 6-dim scale
8:46–converting jazz chords to little chords
13:10–applying little chords in drop-2
14:40–ii-V-I with multiple 6-dim scales
25:22–These Foolish Things using drop-2 and 6-dim scales
29:02–Polka Dots and Moonbeams with drop-2 and 6-dim scales
A quick note: I know for some of the classical players out there writing Dbm6 out with E natural instead of F flat is troublesome, but I was trying to make it easier to read. I know that to some, in doing this, it's now more difficult to read. Perhaps writing C#m6 would've been a way to circumvent the problem. In any event, the purpose here is for you to memorize the sound of the little chords, not the names of the notes. So, I think the sooner you can memorize the pattern the better. Thanks for all of the positive feedback!
