Some friends and I recently drove to Vermont to check out an abandoned military radar base that was used during the Cold War to detect Soviet nuclear missiles. The base was built on top of East Mountain in 1954 at a cost of 21 million dollars, and 2 years. The official name of the base is "North Concord Air Force Station" and for 7 years was home to 174 men. The base was renamed the "Lyndonville Air Force Station" in 1962 and was closed shortly after in '63. It has been abandoned ever since.
The Radar Towers are still there as well as some crumbling buildings and dead end roads. While risky to climb on top of the towers, they've been decaying for the past 60 decades, the view is stunning.
I couldn't resist sending my Ritewing Recon out from the mountaintop and viewing the surrounding area from an even higher vantage point. On a Thankfully, it came back to me and with this awesome footage. Hope you enjoy.
