About Sadie:
Sadie is a spunky 7-year-old from Idaho. She loves reading, playing outside with her friends, and dressing up like a princess. It's not uncommon for her parents to find Sadie and her little sister hiding in their room late at night reading a book together. Sadie is always concerned about others. She loves sharing and does everything she can to make others happy.
Sadie's story begins on New Year's Eve of 2011. She didn't feel well, but her mom figured it was a cold. After a few days, Sadie's skin started to turn yellow, so her mom took her to a doctor. They ran some tests and sent them home. When they walked in the door, her mom sat on the couch and began to cry. Despite being sick, Sadie gave her mom a hug, asked for a wash cloth, cleaned off the kitchen table, and then the living room.
The following day doctors admitted Sadie to a hospital in Idaho, and then transferred her to Primary Children's Hospital. Doctors watched as her condition worsened. By January 16 they determined Sadie was in liver failure and would need to be placed on the transplant list. The family didn't have to wait long. Sadie received a new liver just four days later.
Sadie spent several months in the hospital, and a couple things made the stay a little easier, including her social worker Barbie.
