Opposition leader Anthony Albanese visited flood-hit town Murwillumbah in Northern NSW today, with residents expressing frustration at being left out from the disaster fund extension announced by the government.
“We’re not second-class flood victims. We’re the same as the other flood victims in other regions, so I can’t understand why we’re being treated differently. Everyone needs the support here as much as they need it anywhere else,” local resident Brett Bugg said.
He said it took two years for his town to recover from the last floods, with the recent ones bringing more damage than before and having “come at a worse time.”
“If there’s anyone who can help in any way, this community needs it,” he said.
