"As for the United States, I do not have the impression that the US will back down from its most recent offer (of agricultural subsidy reductions). If we look at the most recent ministerial meeting which was held in Zurich, actually the US played a very important role in breaking the deadlock in the negotiation by giving a very bold offer in agriculture. So for me I do not think the US will back down from its offer."

STORYLINE:
Pacific Rim foreign and trade ministers on Wednesday acknowledged differences among participants in global trade talks ahead of a key World Trade Organisation meeting in Hong Kong, and said they would pursue initiatives to fight the spread of bird flu and global terrorism.
Speaking at the meeting, United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice urged ministers to unite to counter the threats of terrorism and bird flu while helping foster greater prosperity by bolstering the rule of law and open trade.
