My New Year’s Resolutions by Robert Fisher
About the poem
‘Ring out the old, ring in the new’ said the poet, Lord Tennyson. New Year is a time when we want to change our old ways and try to improve ourselves. Or, we want to learn something new – like a new language, some musical instrument, exercise, and some new skill. We even write down many things in a brand new diary. But how many resolutions are accomplished? Some people joke that resolutions, like promises are made to be broken. Here, let’s read about the resolutions made by a naughty young child.
About the poet:
Born in Pittsburg, USA, in 1944, Robert Fischer has written a wide range of poetry. His poems are about Nature, childhood, his favourite country, Italy. He is widely travelled and has written many short stories inspired by Chinese, Japanese myths and legends. A modern poet, at a time when writing poetry itself is almost a lost art, he says -
“Poetry has become a way of coping with the tragedies of life, but it has always been a spontaneous celebration of love and the mystery of life, the wonder of existence.”
