Kirkaldy's Testing Works is situated at 99 Southwark Street. On the first Sunday of every month you can go and see demonstrations of things being smashed.
David Kirkaldy was a Scottish engineer who pioneered testing standards after the industrial revolution and his famous machine sits in a listed building which was built especially for the machine.
You can ask for them to test the strength of most items, bags, umbrellas, rope and they even smashed a grand piano in it!
You can have a tour, a talk with a video and a demonstration with audience participation.
