Are you seeking out a career in a helping field but unsure of which direction is right for you Social workers are skills-based professionals who empower clients with a wide range of issues including mental physical and behavioral health family relationships child welfare and aging.
Social workers engage in advocacy and education to dismantle social injustices and protect vulnerable and oppressed populations. They link clients to resources research social problems and help in the formation of new social policies. You'll often find social workers at the forefront of battles for equity in health care education and criminal justice as well as LGBTQ rights. Practicing social workers need at least a four-year degree in order to earn licensure and maintain their social work title. Having said that Sinclair's Social Work program prepares students for paraprofessional positions that are immediately available to students and graduates of our associate's program.
While they're working towards licensure and social work. In addition, Sinclair partners with several area institutions including Wright State University of Cincinnati, Capitol University, and University of Dayton to ensure a seamless transition for students upon graduation.
Our program also offers two separate certificates the Family Advocate and Social Service Certificate.
The Family Advocate is embedded in our Associate's Degree and both certificates prepare students for casework in various local organizations such as head start. Finally, our program emphasizes networking and professional development which are critical for practicing social workers our students participate in an annual Advocacy Day event at the Ohio Statehouse sponsored by the national association of social workers. We also have an active club on campus that does a great deal of fundraising for local organizations as well as raising awareness on campus for issues such as homelessness and food insecurity.
