Pruning blueberries should be done every year. Removing older less productive canes as well as damaged and diseased branches is important. This will allow new vigorous growth to fill in. The pruning should be done during the winter. A significant amount of the bush can be removed even up to 1/3 of the bush. Most of the fruit comes from 3 to 4 year old canes. If a cane reaches 6 years of age it should be removed. If you want more bushes it is easy to propagate a new bush by taking hardwood cuttings from what you pruned off.
