ACCELERATOR OSCILLATOR
The accelerator oscillator (AC) is a trend momentum indicator from Bill Williams. In its formula it takes the awesome oscillator value (a 34 period simple moving average (SMA) subtracted from a 5 period SMA) and subtracts from it a 5 period moving average of the awesome oscillator (awesome oscillator linked below) The result is then printed as a histogram with a zero line centre. Your platform probably won’t let you change any of the settings for it so you’re most likely saddled with what you’ve got. It’s intended to be an early warning signal with a quick shift in momentum as price really turns.
We all spot that zero-line crossover straight away yet Bill Williams doesn’t really endorse the 0 ling crossover. Being above or below the line is a general indication of bullishness or bearishness, but Bill would rather see two or three consecutive bars in a row for confirmation. Two bars for a long trade above zero or a sell trade below zero. Three bars for a long trade below zero or a sell trade above zero. That’s just the beginning of it though, your life could now be dedicated to perfecting use of this indicator. Good luck on your journey!
