Pei-Yong Shi, the John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Innovations in Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, works on RNA virus, drug discovery, and vaccine research. He has experience in both basic and translational research in a career that has spanned public health, industry, and academia. In his keynote, “SARS-CoV-2 Biology and countermeasure development,” he talks about efforts to understand how mutations found in emerging coronavirus variants impact the virulence, transmissibility and biology of the coronavirus behind the global pandemic.
