What is story plot arc? What is Rising Action? Rising action is when the hero or the protagonist has a goal that they have to achieve. Then there are conflicts that get in their way from achieving it and they don't think they can overcome it.

Let's use Iron Man as an example. The rising action in Iron Man is when Tony Stark is attacked and almost killed. Then he has to stay alive and build the Jericho rockets for the terrorist. Instead, he overcomes it by making the first Iron Man suit but the doctor that helped him is killed in the process.

Then when he arrives back to the states, he says his company will no longer make weapons which starts a frenzy at his office. Then he has to do trial and error on his new iron man suit. Then we see Pepper and him connecting but then he's called away which is now an obstacle in his way.

When he uses his suit to fight the terrorist and free the innocent civilians, he is then attacked by the US Air Force and has to let his best friend know.

The biggest of all when he thinks all hope is lost is when his business partner Obadiah Stane betrays hi and steals the arc reactor from his chest which is keeping him alive. Luckily, he has a spare which is the original one he made from the cave.

So, all these are considered the rising action. The conflict for the hero to overcome or fail. But each of these pushes the story forward and teaches the hero a lesson.
