During our trip to northern Arizona in November 2019, we had book reservations for the Verde Canyon Railroad. This train ride winds through the very scenic Verde Canyon. The trip starts and ends in Clarkdale Arizona and runs about 20 miles, taking approximately 4 hours.
The further into the canyon you go, the scenery gets spectacular with the steep, red rock canyon walls and buttes rising high above the tracks. This time of year the cottonwood and aspen trees along the Verde river were in full Fall yellow colors.
We made our reservations online a month before we visited and we booked 1st class tickets, which gets you free hot and cold buffet snacks, free champagne (to start the trip) and a cash bar. We spent most of the trip on the open air observation car which is what you must do.
