Dr. Patricia Fieto:
Hello. I'm Dr. Patricia Fieto with Baptist Health Primary Care. Atopic dermatitis, also called eczema, is an inflammation of the skin that forms an itchy rash on the upper layers of the skin. The cause is unknown, and it is not contagious. It does seem to occur more often in families where individuals have asthma and hay fever. Common triggers include stress, irritating clothing, and changes in humidity. Contact your primary care physician to identify the triggers that are causing your flare-ups.
