Queensland has reported another record rise in COVID cases but the true number of infections is believed to be much higher.

The state recorded 6,781 new COVID cases on Wednesday.

The emergency department of Ipswich Hospital is said to be bursting at the seams with COVID patients being treated in the hallways.

There are 10 patients remaining in ICU with only two requiring ventilation but hospital admissions have increased significantly - jumping from 170 to 265 in a day.
