commentary: Pro-Saudi lt colonel Ibrahim al Hamadi leader of the military command council since they took over in 1974, had invited his neighbours to celebrate the fourteenth anniversary of the Yemen Arab republic Lieutenant colonel Hamadi was accompanied by prime minister Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani and his chief of staff lt col Ahmed al Ghachni. among the special guests was sheikh sultan Ben Zayed, son of the united Arab emirates sultan. the Yemen Arab republic has been buying all sorts of armament in the last six months, specially to Saudi Arabia and more recently to the united states. the armed forces totaled 30,000 men last year and there is a three year military service for all the young men of the republic.
