Key themes: Learning theory from a Social Work Practitioner, social work theory made simple, strengths perspective/approach and rights-based practice.
I am a social worker in adult's services. I have recognised the challenges in applying theory to practice, especially during university before placements. But equally, in practice and how this can lead to people lacking confidence in their knowledge. It is something I struggled with so I understand this and how awkward it can feel when you are put on the spot!
I feel more confident in applying theory to practice since under-taking postgraduate study and reflections. Lecturers have identified one of my strengths as being my ability to apply theory to myself. I hope that the examples I share can bring theory to life so its relevance can be more clear.
What does it mean to take a strengths perspective?
