Thai culture is well-known for its unique characters, among which are Thai food and Thai dance and music. The first part is about Thai food. One of the most popular dishes is Tom Yam Goong or hot and spicy shrimp soup. This dish is regarded as a healthy dish because it is low-fat and filled with ingredients containing herbal and medicinal properties. Tom Yam Goong has recently been nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The second part is Thai cultural performances with a combination of graceful body movements, elaborate costumes, and music depicting Thai living styles and cultural roots. One of the highlights is Khon, the traditional Masked Dance which is the most stylized form of Thai dance. It is performed by troupes of non-speaking dancers, the story being told by a chorus at the side of the stage. Choreography follows traditional patterns rather than attempting to innovate. Most Khon performances feature episodes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of Ramayana. The Khon, Masked Dance Drama in Thailand was inscribed in 2018 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
