Why do parent leadership organizations engage in racial equity work? In this webinar, Dr. Danielle Perry and researchers from the Center for Policy, Research, and Evaluation (PRE) at NYU Metro Center offer recommendations from lessons learned from being a part of a community of practice and using data to inform action.
In January 2021, NYU Metro Center launched a peer learning community for parents, staff, and community leaders to advance their work on racial equity. Funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the peer learning community is a partnership with four parent leadership organizations across the country, including:
-Greater Rochester, New York Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI)
-Organizers in the Land of Enchantment in New Mexico (OLÉ)
-Parents for Public Schools (PPS) in Mississippi
-The Washington State Association (WSA) Parent Ambassadors
Some highlights of this event will include:
-A panel of parent leaders, sharing stories of why they engage in
racial equity work, and its impact on their families, schools, and
communities
-Recommendations from parent leaders and organization staff on
advancing racial equity within parent leader organizations
