On 30 October 1956, Queen Elizabeth II met Marilyn Monroe at the Royal Film Performance premiere of "The Battle for the River Plate". Arriving at the Odeon in Leicester Square with her sister, Princess Margaret, the Queen shook hands with the film's stars Brigitte Bardot, Victor Mature, and Marilyn Monroe, as well as director Michael Powell. Monroe attended the premiere with her husband, acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller.
