'반이민' 명령에 전 세계 '충격•혼동•반발'
Tens of thousands of people in the United States have been protesting against U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial immigration restrictions.
Dozens of U.S. officials have also formally criticized the executive order.
Kim Mok-yeon has more.
President Trump’s immigration order which blocks Syrian refugees from entering the United States, and suspends immigration from six other Muslim-majority countries has led to the deportation of hundreds of people arriving in American airports since Saturday.
Various rallies and protests have been held in city streets and squares around the country including New York, Washington and Boston.
“I think it’s ridiculous. I mean we’re founded on immigration and those folks had visas to come to this country”
Some U.S. officials have also expressed opposition to the executive order, claiming that it will hurt U.S. businesses and alienate America's allies in the Muslim world.
A so-called "dissent cable" has been circulating among diplomats, which symbolizes a revolt from within the U.S. bureaucracy.
"This executive order was mean spirited and un-American"
"I have asked the attorney general to begin to look at all legal remedies that we have and avenues to allow people to continue to come to the greatest country in the entire globe."
Voices of concern have also been emerging outside of America.
The European Union said it would never choose isolation and inequality over openness and social equality.
Iraq, one of the seven nations included in the ban, passed a motion calling for reciprocal action to be taken.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel also criticized the order, saying the decision aimed at countering terrorism does not justify putting people of a specific background under general suspicion.
France's foreign minister also criticized the ban, claiming that welcoming refugees fleeing war and oppression forms part of their international obligations.
