Open your hips and start turning away from your opponent while blocking their stick with your shin pad.
Finish the move by pushing off your back leg inside edge to generate speed.
Cut inside your opponent with acceleration. Mistakes to avoid:
🚫Performing the spread eagle element without placing the puck perpendicular to your belly button can lead to losing the puck as it becomes reachable for a poke check and easier for opponents to steal.
🚫Lifting the leg and transferring all body weight to the back leg will lead to poor balance control and reduce a player’s ability to apply additional moves until the front leg is placed back on the ice.
☝️Note that 100% of players lift their front leg when starting to learn this move as it is easier to perform, but keeping the front leg on the ice requires a higher level of skating skills.
