The Australian's Adam Creighton says the $60 billion dollar JobKeeper bungle is the “best news we’ve had for quite a few months”.
He said the government should introduce a “second test” on the JobKeeper program to try and reduce the cost “from $70 billion dollars to something like $40 or even $30 billion dollars”.
Sky News host Peta Credlin said while the Treasury reporting error was significant, “the country is essentially $60 billion dollars less in debt, and it's a sign that the economic downturn may not be as bad as we initially thought”.
This view has been supported by a series of polls which found business leaders believe it will be another 12 months before the crisis is over, but are feeling more confident than they were two months ago.
