I had a sunny day and lots of rain water so I decided to wash my clothes with a 5 gallon bucket and a plunger style laundry washer.
My off grid home has no washing machine and very little water. Now that I am collecting rain water off my RV roof I have enough water for laundry and outdoor work which I could not do before.
I have a breathable laundry washing plunger someone sent me which I use with a 5 gallon bucket and some homemade laundry soap to wash clothes with.
Bill & Rosa from our off grid solar cabin gave me some homemade laundry soap when I met them last fall. You can find the budget DIY laundry soap recipe on their channel:

I simply put in some clothes about half full in the bucket. Fill the bucket with rain water to just over the top of my clothes.
Then use the plunger or a new toilet plunger to agitate the clothes for two minutes in order to wash your clothes. This method can get your clothes cleaner than a standard washing machine actually.
When done agitating, simply dump out the water and add some rinse water. Agitate for 30 seconds and pour out. If the water was quite dirty then you can do a second rinse cycle.
Thats it. You can now hang your clean clothes out to dry in the sun.
I washed a load of very dirty socks from my gardening days. They were blackened and very filthy. The laundromat would not have cleaned these socks. I know from experience. My hand washing method got my blackened socks nearly pure white again.
This method sure beats the old wash board method for off grid or shtf laundry washing.
