Melbu Frahma complete boss battle with Miranda only
Due to the sheer length of this fight, the video is at 200 FPS. Even with this big speed boost, the video was JUST short of an hour after I removed a few frames (some parts of the video had glitched up, but they were very small). This fight wasn't difficult, just VERY long. If this had been at regular speed, it would have taken well over 2 hours. Just glad to say it's over, and my Shana/Miranda SCC is complete.
Strategy:
I equipped the Rainbow Earring (Destone Amulet would also work) because of the petrification in the first phase. I show it at the beginning, but for those who can't read Japanese, I had the following equipment:
Detonate Arrow
Dragon Helm
Silver DG Armor
Dancer's Shoes
Rainbow Earring
-- First Phase
Melbu Frahma can hit with a beam attack that petrifies you, which will cause an instant game over. Basically the same thing as equipping the Talisman, except it's a different item. All you really have to do is attack away and use a few dragon summons. The dragon summon will kill the tentacles in one hit, but you can achieve the same effect over time considering how many times you'll be physically attacking. Melbu will regularly stiffen up and put his hands together in front of him. If he has his tentacles still, they will gather in front of him at this time; don't bothering attacking, just guard five times then resume. As the fight goes on, however, try to only go into dragoon for one turn. This is because you don't want to be attacking Melbu in his next form in dragoon. After you deal a certain amount of damage, he will shift.
-- Second Phase
I had issues with this in my Dart SCC but not my Lavitz/Albert SCC, and now I think I know why: the boss will use his instant game over attack after you attack him as a dragoon. I'm not 100% sure if this applies to magic items as well as I used the Psyche Bomb X in the first phase and didn't have anything else to test out. Unfortuantely, in order to avoid him sucking Miranda in and ending the game, you have to attack physically and without transforming into a dragoon (dragoon attacks will also trigger the game over attack). This means just firing away over and over for 200 damage a pop. I would suggest holding your Power Up and Power Down for this phase since it will already be long. After too many turns of Shana shooting and Melbu slashing with a beam attack, he will shift again.
-- Third Phase
This has an awesome rotation that revolves around an imposed day/night cycle. Love to see stuff like this for big fights in RPGs but it doesn't make a difference for you here. Just keep attacking, and when you can, turn into dragoon to deal more damage with your attacks. You can use more dragon summons, but when you get low on MP recovery items I would suggest holding off and saving some for the next phase. Other than that, just rinse and repeat your shots until he shifts again.
-- Final Phase
Time to wrap this up... with the same strategy. One thing to note is that either after a certain amount of damage is dealt or after you attack Melbu in dragoon form, he will summon two Monsters and create a dampening field with the power of the Dragon Block Staff. If you attack him at all in dragoon form for this fight, try to only do it one turn at a time. The dragoon debuff will only last four turns, thankfully, and you can transform and attack/dragon summon again when it goes down with little risk. A dragon (or a slew of dragoon attacks) will kill the Monsters very easily. Otherwise just physically attack and throw in dragoon for boosted damage when you can. I've heard that the Monsters can use an instant death attack, but I'm not sure what the trigger is as I have never seen it. When you're on your last 100-200 MP, I would save some for Moon Lights just in case you take a lot of damage and need to heal up quickly. He uses that Archangel swarm attack in this phase and it can do over 2,000 damage in addition to other spells and attacks. Eventually, this boss will fall.
