"At approximately 11pm Eastern Time yesterday, one US special operations member was killed and another was wounded, while conducting small unit training at a remote training site near Kandahar, Afghanistan. The US serviceman was killed after apparently stepping on a landmine. The names are being witheld pending on notification of next of kin."

STORYLINE:
A member of the US special forces was killed when he stepped on a land mine Thursday during a training mission near the U.S. base at Kandahar in southern Afghanistan.
Another serviceman was injured in the blast, but U.S. military officials say his injuries are not life-threatening.
A Department of Defense statement said Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Matthew J. Bourgeois, 35, of Tallahassee, Florida, was killed while his unit was conducting small unit training at a remote site near Kandahar.
