In most of the world, but particularly in Latin America, there is a noticeable gender gap when it comes to who owns a business. From centuries of gender inequality and strict social roles, women have had barriers set before them when deciding to start and grow their own businesses. These barriers have been progressively torn down by generations of visionary women, who have created a more egalitarian workforce than ever before. Modern women face a different set of barriers, most of which are derivatives of societal expectations that have an impact on how spouses, children, and family members view women and how women view themselves. In order to come up with an innovative solution to these barriers, we must first identify them. In this Ted Talk we'll explore the barriers modern women face when starting a new business, and what we as a society can do to breach the gap.
