5 Incredible Classic Sports Cars! Now Almost Extinct!
We'll explore five extraordinary vehicles that pushed the boundaries of engineering and design. From the elegant French Ligier JS2 to the innovative Dutch Gatso 4000, these incredible machines tell stories of passion, innovation, and determination.
Meet the Ligier JS2, a masterpiece born from tragedy when racing driver Guy Ligier created this stunning French sports car in memory of his friend Jo Schlesser. With its sleek Italian-designed body and powerful Maserati engine, the JS2 wasn't just beautiful - it was fast enough to claim second place at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1975. Only about 100 of these remarkable vehicles were ever built, making them extremely rare today.
The Gatso 4000 brings us an amazing tale from post-war Netherlands. Created by racing driver Maurice Gatsonides, this unique sports car featured an aircraft-inspired sliding canopy made by the Fokker airplane company. With its powerful Mercury V8 engine and innovative design, the Gatso 4000 proved that great cars could come from unexpected places. Sadly, only a handful were ever produced, with one last spotted in South Africa around 1990.
From America comes the incredible Bocar XP-5, a testament to one man's vision. Bob Carnes, a self-taught engineer from Denver, created this lightweight racing machine that could hit speeds of 160 mph - amazing for the late 1950s! The XP-5 combined American muscle with European handling, proving itself at famous races like the Daytona Speed Week and the challenging Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
Don't miss the fascinating story of the ASA 1000 GT, nicknamed the "Little Ferrari" because it was actually developed by Ferrari before being handed over to another company. This compact sports car packed Ferrari engineering into a smaller package, with a high-revving engine that could spin up to 7,000 rpm. With fewer than 100 ever made, these rare gems are now highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
Finally, we'll explore the mysterious Elva GT160, a British sports car so rare that only three were ever built. With its cutting-edge mid-engine design and lightweight aluminum body, the GT160 could reach incredible speeds on the racetrack. Even though it showed great promise, high production costs meant this amazing machine never reached its full potential.
