There's nothing else like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Amvox2 DB9 Transponder. Period. It's a motorsports chronograph that acts as a remote control for your Aston Martin. Forget Rolex and Omega; this Amvox2 DB9 practically turns you into James Bond.
Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin first joined forces during the 1920s with an agreement to supply dashboard instruments for road and race cars. In 2004, after 80+ years of high times and high speeds, the two blue chip nameplates unveiled the Amvox series of watches. Built by JLC and designed in homage to the classic Aston interior instruments, the watches were a hit.
But the concept really took off in 2006 with the release of the Amvox2 pusher less chronograph, and the series gained *mainstream* major media attention in 2008, when the first "Transponder" units of the Amvox2 debuted. They could lock and unlock an owner's Aston Martin; how cool is that?
The Amvox2 DBS offered by thewatchbox.com is the 2010 third-generation model of the Transponder. It improves on the original with sleeker dial styling and a "find me" mode that allows an Aston Martin owner to press the dial and flash his car's lights in a dark or crowded parking lot.
Simply press the 9 o'clock (open) 3 o'clock (lock) or both sides ("find me") to activate the transponder unit.
The transponder unit is a serviceable JLC component installed by the factory in Switzerland and programmed by your local Aston Martin dealer. It can be synched to a new automobile that employs the DBS/DB9 security systems with which the Transponder was designed to interface.
Electronic tech aside, the Amvox2 DB9 Transponder reprises the traditional watchmaking that made the original Amvox2 a landmark watch. Still the world's only family of vertical-trigger (pusher-less) chronographs, the Amvox2s can be operated with a simple tap at the top and bottom of the crystal. Start/stop/reset... tap, tap, tap.
This system is exclusive to Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Amvox2 family.
And the DB9 takes Amvox2 exclusivity to unheard of levels. Although less than 4,000 units of all Amvox2 variants were constructed, Transponder models are almost unheard-of. By some estimates fewer than 100 of these DB9 Transponders have been built.
thewatchbox.com is proud to offer this landmark Jaeger-LeCoultre Amvox2 DB9 Transponder with a complete JLC factory box, technical manuals, Aston Martin special edition accessories, and documents of provenance. Video and content by Tim Mosso.
