(26 Apr 2017) Farmers were on Wednesday giving away their produce to people in Buenos Aires as part of a demonstration over conditions for small scale producers.
It was the second demonstration of its kind this week as producers say they are facing an "imminent crisis" in the sector.
Groups representing small tenant farmers marched on the government house in Buenos Aires protesting policies they say are killing their industry and livelihoods.
Accompanied by leftist and worker party members the demonstrators distributed 40-thousand kilos of fruits and vegetables to a gathered throng of people in a central square, facing the Casa Rosada, government house.
A growing trend away from local agricultural production and refocusing on cash rich crop, such as soy, has ramped up the price of land meaning many had to cede their territory to large scale producers.
Rental prices for the land many now rent has shot up and increasingly the supply chain means any profits go to large retail outlets, leaving the producers struggling to survive.
Many who lined the Plaza de Mayo square to receive the produce voiced their support for the producers and also called on Argentina's President Mauricio Macri to take action necessary to tackle inflation.
