In this video Hydraulic. online store owner Minos Mantzavinos explains how In line pressure relief valves work and why they should be installed as close to the pressure generator (or Pump) as practical.

Pressure spikes will be safely bypassed back to the tank allowing for both the correct functioning of equipment & also for operator safety.
The pressure that the inline relief valve will release excess pressure can also be adjusted and set to a predetermined level.

Inline pressure relief valves can also be used to protect or limit forces in individual circuits such as limiting the pressure to a certain function such as reducing the force applied by a cylinder or lowering the torque applied by a motor. The rest of the system can still continue to function normally at elevated pressures.
