The Eurofighter 2000 prototype first took to the air in 1994. Known by most of its operators as the Typhoon, this formidable multi-role combat aircraft is in service not only with the air forces of Eurofighter partner nations Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, but also those of Austria and Saudi Arabia. The Italian Air Force, which calls the aircraft the F-2000A (or TF-2000A in the case of two-seat versions), has five operational F-2000A squadrons within three wings. Upgraded Tranche 3 variants of the Typhoon are now rolling off the Italian production line at Turin-Caselle and entering service with the country's air force. Seen here at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2016, on the Saturday of the show, is a Typhoon operated by the Reparto Sperimentale Volo (RSV) at Pratica di Mare Air Base.
